Selecting Biomechanical Variables for Detect Gait Events Using Computational Vision
نویسندگان
چکیده
In clinical gait analysis gait events, such as initial contact and toe off, are needed for biomechanical data normalization and for several temporal/distance parameters estimation. Therefore, there is a major necessity to identify the key gait events accurately. In this paper it will be presented an algorithm to detected stance phase and swing phase events using just visual information acquired by image cameras. The performance of our algorithm was compared with the “golden standard” method (based on data from force platforms) considering normal video digital cameras and high-speed cameras also.

Determination of gait events using an externally mounted shank accelerometer.
Biomechanical analysis requires the determination of specific foot contact events. This is typically achieved using force platform information; however, when force platforms are unavailable, alternative methods are necessary. A method was developed for the determination of gait events using an accelerometer mounted to the distal tibia, measuring axial accelerations. The aim of the investigation...
متن کاملEarly biomechanical markers of postural instability in Parkinson's disease.
Current clinical assessments do not adequately detect the onset of postural instability in the early stages of Parkinson's disease (PD). The aim of this study was to identify biomechanical variables that are sensitive to the effects of early Parkinson's disease on the ability to recovery from a balance disturbance. Ten adults diagnosed with idiopathic PD and no clinically detectable postural in...

INTRODUCTION Recognition of gait patterns has been studied intensively during the last decades. Different gait strategies have been elucidated by applying different waveform analysis techniques to biomechanical gait data [1,2] and it has been shown that individuals can be identified using joint angles in the sagittal plane [3]. However, little is known about additional biomechanical variables f...
متن کاملReal-Time Gait Event Detection Based on Kinematic Data Coupled to a Biomechanical Model †
Real-time detection of multiple stance events, more specifically initial contact (IC), foot flat (FF), heel off (HO), and toe off (TO), could greatly benefit neurorobotic (NR) and neuroprosthetic (NP) control. Three real-time threshold-based algorithms have been developed, detecting the aforementioned events based on kinematic data in combination with a biomechanical model. Data from seven subj...

Objective: The effects of scoliotic deformity on the biomechanics of gait are not clear. The aim of this study was to compare the spatiotemporal variables during gait in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis and healthy individuals. Methods: Eighteen healthy adolescent girls and 19 adolescent patients with idiopathic scoliosis that were matched for age, height, mass and BMI participated in this stud...
